Inicialização dupla Linux Mint 17.1 com OS X Lion

Eu tenho um MacBook 13 '(2007, hw.model: 2,1) executando o OS X Lion (10.7). Desejo inicializar o Linux Mint 17.1 com o OS X. Criei uma Partição para Linux e também instalei o rEFIt (0.14). Eu criei um LiveUSB e o Live DVD para instalar o Linux Mint.

Quando uso o LiveUSB e seleciono a opção Linux no rEFIt, recebo o seguinte erro:

The firmware refused to boot from the selected volume. Note that external
hard drives are not well-supported by Apple's firmware for legacy OS booting.

E quando eu uso o LiveDVD (com e sem pressionar 'c'), o disco é ejetado. Gravei 2 novos DVDs e também testei a instalação em outra máquina, onde ele foi instalado com sucesso.

Quaisquer sugestões sobre como resolver isso são bem-vindas.

Eu tenho o mesmo hardware e tive o mesmo problema. A inicialização a partir de DVD e USB não funcionou, por isso criei uma nova partição no disco rígido, copiei a iso Linux e iniciei a inicialização. Instalou tudo ok, mas os fãs estavam funcionando o tempo todo, então eu desisti dele no final.
