incapaz de inserir linha no id, mas a linha não existe

Aqui está o estranho problema que estou enfrentando. Estou tentando inserir dados usando a seguinte consulta

insert into product_product 
(id, product_tmpl_id, make_equip, model_equip, name_template, serial_num_equip, location_equip, issue_date_equip, issue_to_equip, remarks_equip, pr, ch,  categ_id,valuation) 
values (700,700,'Nikon','Action 10x50 Lookout','Nikon Action 10x50 Lookout','671386','40 Wall St.','5/13/2004 12:00:00 AM','','OM''s OFFICE',62,72,502,'manual periodic');

Eu recebo o erro:

ERROR:  duplicate key value violates unique constraint "product_product_pkey"
DETAIL:  Key (id)=(700) already exists.

SQL state: 23505
Detail: Key (id)=(700) already exists.

Corri a consulta select nesse registro assim:

select * from product_product
where id=700

Retorna colunas sem dados (os dados também incluem identificação)

Eu tentei executar a consulta de atualização como esta:

update product_product set 
                        product_tmpl_id=700,
                        make_equip='Nikon', 
                        model_equip='Action 10x50 Lookout', 
                        name_template='Nikon Action 10x50 Lookout', 
                        serial_num_equip='671386',

resultado foi:

Eu tentei excluir a consulta também, mas a mesma saída.

Mostrar também todos os dados não mostra nada como o ID 700.

Não sei por que isso está acontecendo.

Eu sou indexado e aspirei minha mesa da manutenção, mas o mesmo resultado.

Por favor, deixe-me saber o que há de errado com isso.

Eu tenho algo como mais de 200 colunas, então eu as removi daqui ....

O ID da coluna é definido como SERIAL, que é semelhante à propriedade AUTO_INCREMENT suportada por outros bancos de dados. Portanto, você deve omiti-lo na instrução INSERT ou usar a palavra-chave DEFAULT e o novo ID será gerado automaticamente.
