pg_ctl: comando não encontrado, qual pacote possui esse comando?

Instalei o pgadmin usando o centro de software do ubuntu e estou tentando acessar um banco de dados local (baixado recentemente da Internet). Eu tentei executar o comando pg_ctl (executando como postgres), no entanto, isso fornece um erro de comando não encontrado. Também executei os seguintes comandos:

Você deve editar seu caminho:

$ cd ~
$ vim .profile
PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/postgresql/{version}/bin
export PATH
$ . ~/.profile

Substitua {version}pelo número da versão correta.

E agora você pode executar o comando no shell:

pg_ctl --help
pg_ctl is a utility to initialize, start, stop, or control a PostgreSQL server.

Você não deve executar pg_ctldiretamente no Ubuntu / Debian. Use em pg_ctlclustervez disso, que é instalado por postgresql-common. Veja sua página de manual para documentação.

Onde:

/etc/postgresql/**cluster-version**/**cluster-name**/start.conf

onde ação:

start|stop|restart|reload|status|promote
