Não foi possível localizar o pacote libc6-dbg: i386 na janela de encaixe

Estou tentando instalar libc6-dbg: i386 dentro de um contêiner de docker baseado no Ubuntu porque preciso dele para o Valgrind, mas não posso.

Dado o seguinte Dockerfile:

FROM ubuntu:14.04

MAINTAINER Me <xyz@example.com>

RUN apt-get update
RUN apt-get install libc6-dbg
RUN apt-get install libc6-dbg:i386

Executando em um host de desktop de Ubuntu 14.04 de 64 bits:

sudo docker build .

No host, eu posso instalar libc6-dbg: i386, por que não consigo instalá-lo dentro do contêiner do docker?

As informações necessárias para descobrir isso estão em https://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch/HOWTO .

O apt na imagem oficial do docker ubuntu e também em phusion / baseimage é configurado apenas com suporte para o amd64. É o que ele diz se você perguntar:

# dpkg --print-architecture
amd64
# dpkg --print-foreign-architectures
<no output>

A maneira de corrigir isso é adicionar outra arquitetura antes da atualização do apt-get :

# dpkg --add-architecture i386
# apt-get update
<lots of lines>
# apt-get install libc6-dbg:i386
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  gcc-4.9-base:i386 libc6:i386 libgcc1:i386

Tente adicionar a seguinte linha antes apt-get updateno seu Dockerfile:
